Watch Review | Panerai Ceramica

In 2010 Panerai has just developed a new techniques and still committed to their traditional values, the Luminor 1950 10 days GMT Ceramica has a case made of zirconium oxide ceramic. Its hard , naturally , and scratch and corrosion resistant .The ceramic is pressed into a single block, that can then be milled into the distinctive shape of a Panerai watch case . Similar to their use of gold in the watch, in that the case is carved out of a single, massive block.

The Ceramica is powered by the P.2003, a automatic movement that is designed and constructed completely in house with 25 jewels and three barrels that gives an amazing power reserve of 10 days, as indicated on the display under the central hands.


The display dial of the Ceramica is simple and uncluttered as expected from a Panerai watch. The central hands show the hours and minutes. A small seconds display at 9 o'clock position which also served as the 24 hour indicator and a small date window at the 3 o'clock position.There is a second time zone and a seconds reset. The luminescent materials on the dial (hour markers,the hands, 3 Arabic numerals, date numbers , second time zone hand , am/pm hand and the power reserve pointer) gives excellent visibility in low light conditions. All of this is fitted in to a black ceramic case that is 44m in diameter and has a water resistant of 100 meters.

The Luminor 1950 10 days GMT Ceramica will be produced in a limited series of 500 pieces ,the price will be around 12,900 euros, and is scheduled to launch on September 10.

Automatic mechanical, Panerai P.2003 caliber, executed entirely by Panerai, 13¾ lignes, 8.0 mm thick, 25 jewels, Glucydur balance, 28,800 alternations/hour. KIF Parechoc® anti-shock device. Power reserve 10 days with horizontal indicator, three barrels. 296 components.
